The chair asked us to help the board strengthen trust and deepen the quality of challenge between executive and non-executive directors, particularly around strategy. The goal was to move beyond process-led debate towards better contribution, sharper judgement and a more constructive board dynamic.

We took the board through an illuminating analysis of its interpersonal dynamics, contribution patterns and decision-making behaviours. By surfacing how different voices were being heard, where challenge was being softened or avoided, and where the executive/non-executive relationship could work better, we helped the board identify practical steps to meet the evaluation aims.
